The Poitevin Marsh ("Green Venice") comprises thousands of kilometers of canals draining and criss-crossing a 65,000 hectare region essentially of sunlit forest and fields. In the warm, slack water tench, pike, zander and eels are the favorite prey of the locals, all of which end up on the dinner plate.10 kilo pike are not unheard of. Roach and shad abound too. The best way to fish the marsh is by the traditional marsh rowing boat called a 'platte'. A boat lets you into the secret heart of the marais sauvage ("wild marsh") where the silence and solitude of the National Park will close around you. This is where the fishing is best. Our platte is moored down the lane near the house and is at your disposal. Boat rentals are also to be found along the canals wherever you go and this is definitely the best way to see the marais and to discover its secret world. please let us know if you need a boat Holiday fishing licences are available from the Arcais tabac for about 30 Euros for 2 weeks. |
